What services does Paratus offer as a Starlink Authorised Reseller?
Paratus is an Authorised Reseller of Starlink Priority services, providing a fully managed solution that includes additional service plans, installation, maintenance, warranty, local tax invoicing and flexible payment, as well as 24/7 support to ensure high-quality and reliable satellite internet across Africa and beyond.
How long does it take to receive my Starlink kit?
We are awaiting our initial order which is delayed, but Paratus will be holding stock from that point onwards and once you have signed up and paid for the hardware, delivery is immediate while stocks last.
Does Paratus offer installation?
We are awaiting our initial order which is delayed, but Paratus will be holding stock from that point onwards and once you have signed up and paid for the hardware, installation takes 2 to 3 working days while stocks last.
Can I use Starlink anywhere in the country?
Starlink is available for use anywhere in the country, though coverage may be affected by obstructions near the antenna. The kit can be moved within a 1km radius of its initial activation point. If you anticipate moving your Starlink frequently (more than a few times per year), we recommend switching to a Mobile Priority service plan, which offers greater flexibility for travel within the country.
Can I use Starlink while travelling outside the country?
Starlink offers a mobile service with roaming capabilities, allowing you to use it in various countries. Mobile Priority data includes global ocean coverage, so your business can operate from anywhere that Starlink provides service. However, roaming is intended for temporary use, and extended periods may require switching to a international plan.
What’s the difference between the High-Performance and Standard Actuated Kits?
The High-Performance kit offers enhanced durability, higher speeds and better performance in extreme environments, making it ideal for businesses with higher demands. The Standard Actuated kit delivers adequate performance for general residential use with standard hardware, suitable for streaming. Note that both kits can be used with any service plans Paratus Eswatini offers.
Are priority data services capped?
All priority plans come with unlimited standard data and a configurable amount of priority data. Priority data includes faster speeds and top network priority, ensuring the best coverage.
- Fixed Plans: 1TB, 2TB, 6TB, 40GB
Any unutilised priority data in a month is lost at the end of the month. Each month starts with a new Priority allocation.
What happens if I go over the data limits?
You can opt-in to automatic additional data, which will be charged, once you exceed your monthly priority data limit. If you opt-out, Priority plans revert to unlimited standard data, and Mobile Priority plans revert to unlimited mobile data which can be estimated by considering factors like resources needed, including storage, RAM, and CPU, anticipated traffic, and any additional services such as data transfer, backups, security features, or managed services.
Can I change my service plan(s)?
Yes, Paratus Eswatini can assist you with a change to another plan that Paratus sells.
Can I share service plans among kit?
No, each kit requires its own service plan.
Do I need new equipment to switch between residential and business plans?
No. Once you purchase a dish, you can switch between plans. However, high-performance kits offer better performance, especially in harsher weather conditions and with more user capacity.
How many users/devices can a single kit support?
We recommend about 20 devices per High-Performance kit, though this may vary based on network use. High-bandwidth activities like video streaming might reduce capacity sooner than low-bandwidth activities like web browsing, email or VoIP.
Can one Starlink dish be used by multiple buildings/sites?
The Starlink Gen2 Wi-Fi router (included with the Standard kit) has typical wifi range and recommended for around 20 users/devices. Our recommendation is to assess which area’s lack Wi-Fi coverage after the initial installation and to make use of a Paratus Wi-Fi solution to extend the range. This is an assessment that a technician will do when installing.
How reliable is the connection?
Starlink aims for maximum uptime, though this can vary by region. It is important to note that this is a broadband satellite service and as such is subject to weather and other atmospheric conditions. Throughput, uptime and latency are not guaranteed.
What do I do if I have a warranty issue or claim?
If you are on a 24 contract you qualify for a replacement of faulty kit. You simply have to bring the faulty kit to your nearest Paratus branch office or a technician can collect this from you for a standard call out fee. 12-month contracts qualify for warranty replacement subject to an assessment to determine if the damage is covered.
I already own a kit which I activated elsewhere (a different country or on the Starlink portal). Can Paratus activate this in Eswatini for me?
Yes we can assist, but you will first need to deregister your kit from the current portal / account. There is a step by step process you can follow by contacting Starlink or your Reseller. Once the kit has been released Paratus will be able to add you to the Eswatini portal and activate your service based on a signed Paratus Starlink contract of your choice.
Starlink Business
The Paratus Starlink Solutions are premium satellite internet services for your business needs. With the Business packages, you have access to more than double the antenna strength of Starlink residential services and priority traffic, which results in lower latency, higher throughput, and exceptional reliability.
As your authorised Starlink reseller, Paratus delivers you a fully managed service, including additional service plans, installation, and 24/7 support to deliver the most robust connectivity solution possible.
How Starlink Works
Traditional satellite Internet services use single geostationary satellites that orbit the Earth at a very high altitude (over 30,000 km). This means that the data has to travel a long distance between the user and the satellite, which causes high latency. High latency makes it difficult to use online applications that require fast and smooth data transmission, such as online collaboration, video conferencing, or cloud computing.
Starlink uses Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology that uses a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit the Earth at a much lower altitude. This means that the data has to travel a shorter distance between the user and the satellite, which reduces latency significantly.
GEO
Geostationary Earth Orbit Satellite
- Orbit the Earth at an altitude of over 30,000 km above the equator, matching the Earth’s rotational period.
- Appear to be stationary in the sky from a fixed point on Earth.
- Mainly used for weather data, broadcast TV, and some low-speed data communications.
- Advantages: high-capacity density, low cost per bit, large coverage area.
- Disadvantages: high latency (about 600 ms)
MEO
Medium Earth Orbit Satellite
- Orbit the Earth at an altitude between 5,000 and 20,000 km, moving faster than GEO satellites.
- Complete one orbit in between two and eight hours.
- Mainly used for navigation purposes, such as GPS, Glonass, and Galileo.
- Advantages: lower latency than (about 50 ms), higher throughput than GEO satellites.
- Disadvantages: need more satellites to cover the same area, need more complex tracking systems to maintain contact with them.
LEO
Low Earth Orbit Satellite
- Orbit the Earth at an altitude up to 2,000 km.
- Complete one orbit in about 90 minutes.
- Mainly used for communication and observation purposes, such as satellite phones, Internet access, remote sensing, and space exploration.
- Advantages: worldwide coverage, low latency.
- Disadvantages: need a large number of satellites to maintain continuous service, face more atmospheric drag and orbital decay than higher-altitude satellites.
Improved reliability
Starlink Business Solutions are equipped with high gain antennas, which allow them to transmit and receive signals more efficiently and effectively. They also have additional throughput allocation, which means that they can handle more data traffic and bandwidth.
These features enable Starlink Business to offer higher reliability for your Internet service, which means that you can enjoy better performance and availability of your online applications. This is ideal for mission-critical operations 24/7, such as construction sites, energy projects, mining, marine vessels, and more.
High-speed
Thanks to Priority Data, Starlink offers faster speeds (typically 40-220 Mbps download, 8-25 Mbps upload) & top network priority, enabling
high throughput connectivity for applications such as video-conferencing, cloud computing, remote working, SD-WAN, and more.
